TAKAZAWA CANDLE

Since 1892, Takazawa Candle has been illuminating spaces in Japan with candles crafted from the grace of nature - fruits of sumac tree, rice bran, and rapeseed flower oil.

The flame comes from a special wick made from a unique recipe dating back to the 16th century, and it is the symbol of ancestral wisdom.

A day at the Takazawa Candle factory commences early, with fires lit under kettles at 5 AM to melt the wax.Thinning from nearby Noto Peninsula forests fuels the kettles. Crafting a traditional Japanese candle involves intricately winding dried rushes around a washi-paper core, ensuring a powerful flame. The candle`s form takes shape as melted wax is poured into wooden or metallic molds. Once set, the candles are carefully removed and further shaped by hand with a small knife.

Each candle from Takazawa Candle carries not just the glow of its flame but also a profound connection to a heritage spanning over a century.
